The 2018 Winter Olympics begin Friday, Feb. 9 in PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, and the schedule of events is packed from the opening ceremony until the closing ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 25.In between, the Winter Olympics schedule features non-stop match-ups and medal ceremonies. Eager viewers can even start watching certain sports early, and NBC starts its primetime coverage with figure skating at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, Feb. 8.

New Winter Olympics events

Some new Olympics events will make their debut in PyeongChang: the Alpine team competition, in which 16 countries square off in a mixed-gender slalom tournament; big-air snowboarding (boarders ascend to the top of a tower, then fly off a 160-ft. ramp); mixed doubles curling, which features two curlers—a man and a woman—on a squad rather than the usual four; and mass-start speedskating (think a very crowded oval).

Where are the games?

The games will be held in Pyeongchang in South Korea.

There has never been an Olympics in this region but South Korea have hosted the Summer Olympics 1988 in Seoul.

Pyeongcheng is located in the mountains of South Korea in the province of Gangwon and is a popular destination for hiking and skiing.

Pyeongcheng is nine hours ahead of GMT.

When do they start?

The games officially start on Thursday, 8 February.

The Opening Ceremony takes place at 11am GMT on Friday, 9 February.

The Olympics officially ends on 25 February

What TV channel is it on and will it be live streamed?

Coverage of the games will be televised on BBC Sport and Eurosport.
